The Massachusetts Archives has selected several records collections of state agencies for digitized, online viewing.
The landing page allows you to see the agencies involved and click your way to actual digitized records. Pay particular attention to the Adjutant General's Office. It gives you a collection of Civil War records as well as an index of Massachusetts casualties in WWII.
