PGS Events for the Week of 12-17 October 2020

Beginning immediately, you must register for all PGS online classes and events. The process is quick and easy as described below for each class. You may register beforehand or at the time of the event. We are doing this primarily to provide another level of security

Tuesday, 13-Oct-20 at 1:00 PM: Census Before 1850—Analysis. Many researchers become frustrated with the difficulty in researching the US Census prior to 1850 because of only the heads of households being explicitly named. However, those early censuses contain more information than one might initially think. This class examines the characteristics of the pre-1850 census, the information available, and some strategies for analyzing those census years. Summers.

Wednesday, 14-Oct-20 at 1:00 PM: Google Earth Tours –   Google Earth tours can be a fun way to share your genealogical research with relatives. This class will show you the basics of how to create, save, and share a tour that can visually illustrate the life and travels of your ancestors using the Google Earth free program. Fortin

Saturday, 17-Oct-20 at 11:00 AM: Program Meeting--“What the Heck Does That Say?: The Challenge of Difficult Handwriting.”  Presented by Pam Vestal

Deciphering the handwriting in old documents can be difficult, but a few good strategies can make all the difference.  We'll look at a variety of ways to figure out what the chicken scratches on the page say, but also what the style of writing can tell us about our ancestors.
