A lesser used record set is that pertaining to National Military Homes, or Old Soldiers Homes. The FamilySearch WIKI is a good place to start if you are new to the subject. By the late 1920s there were 17 federal homes in operation, and through the years an additional 55 operated by various states.
The link below takes you to a WIKI page that gives a short history of the program, and also links to online records as well as to records available specifically at the Family History Library.
