Saturday, 15-Oct-22 at 11:00 AM. Program Meeting--No Easy Button. Using Immersion Genealogy to Understand Your Ancestors-- Family history is much more than names, dates, and places, or boxes, lines, and charts. For 21st century genealogists, it is easy to limit our research to the documents or other facts we find online. Take your research to the next step to understand your ancestors’ lives through “immersion genealogy.” We will learn the process of discovering where they lived, worked, and worshipped, and experiencing those customs and traditions they passed down. We will also discuss key resources, methodology, and tips for reaching out to relatives and repositories, and how to make the most out of a trip to your ancestor’s hometown (near or far).      Hybrid-Jenkins B and Zoom

Family History Assistance Day is coming up on 29 October. This is where you bring your research papers, and with the assistance of a volunteer researcher, you explore the Internet to further fill out your family tree. This is a great opportunity for those just starting out in their genealogy research, as well as for experienced researchers who need another set of eyes to help move through a pesky research question.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm on a first-come-first-served basis.

This year there are two ways you can participate: in person or virtually.

For those who wish to participate in person, bring your research  question to Jenkins Room A between 11am and 4pm and we’ll pair you with a volunteer. No advanced registration is necessary.

For those who wish to participate via the Internet, you can do so using Zoom. You need to register ahead of time, but you will be served in the order that you log into the meeting. You can find the URL to register at the 29 October calendar entry in the PGS Website home page. We hold Family History Assistance Day twice a year, and it has proven to be a popular event. It’s open to the public and it’s free.
