In a recent edition of his Online Newsletter, Dick Eastman published his list of 10 genealogy commandments, and it is worth a good, long, thoughtfully-considered read.
The "rules" he lists are mostly ones that we all know about, at least if you have been doing research for a while, but they are also ones that we overlook, forget, ignore, or otherwise fail to give their due.
